South River Restoration wins PMA: Property Management Association 2009 First Place Award

November 23, 2009

South River Restoration has been awarded the First Place Award for Best Display of Equipment in the 2009 PMExpo. South River's presentation included a custom life-size display, replicating multiple types of structural components (flooring, trim, walls) and specialty drying equipment. This unique demonstration gave guests a visual hands-on approach to understanding the use, application and capabilities of specialty drying equipment and its importance in the proper restoration of property damage. This understanding assists property managers in choosing contractors fit for projects that may qualify for the use of in-place drying and other specialty drying methods; thus saving them in demolition, replacement and repair costs.

The 2nd Annual Frank Howard Celebrity Golf Classic presented by South River Restoration

August 17, 2009

On August 17th, 2009 business men and women from across the region participated in a golf event to benefit one of the most phenomenal charities in the world, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. South River Restoration presented the 2nd Annual Frank Howard Golf Classic, raising $55,000.00 with the support of players and sponsors. This is a feat that all involved should take pride in, as events such as this enable St. Jude to open its doors each day for children that otherwise may not have a chance.

The event began on Sunday, August 16th with a banquet dinner at Old South Country Club, during which players, sponsors and their guests mingled with over 20 hall-of-famers and sports celebrities such as Phil Niekro, Javier Lopez and Roberto Clemente Jr all of whom flew in for the tournament. Throughout dinner, graciously sponsored by The Original Steakhouse & Sports Theatre, special guests spoke on behalf of St. Jude including Stephanie Glowacki who spoke about her very personal experience with St. Jude when her 12 year old boy was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2007. Her son William's steady recovery and St. Jude's considerable care for not only William but his parents and brothers was an inspiration to all and in itself proved this event's cause worthy.

Generous sponsors made this event the success it was. We would like to thank Loews Annapolis Hotel, AirTran Airways and Absolute Limousine for providing transportation and lodging for the celebrities and special guests. Food sponsors set up displays and buffets throughout the course such as Dominos Pizza, Morton's Steakhouse, Chick & Ruth's Deli, Shockers Bar & Grill and gelato from Aromi d'Italia cooled players down in the 90 degree heat. Fordham Brewing Company, Budweiser and Pepsi donated the much needed beverages for the 2-day event. Hole sponsors from within the restoration industry greeted players with games, food and drinks throughout tournament play and a special thanks also goes to the 46 businesses and restaurants around Annapolis that donated over $20,000 worth of items, services, tickets and trips to be raffled and auctioned.

It's with this kind of community and industry effort that we were able to have fun and contribute to a fantastic charity. Eight-four cents of every dollar received directly supports the treatment and research at St. Jude. All children accepted for treatment at St. Jude are treated without regard to the family's ability to pay and it costs $1.4 million dollars to open the doors of the hospital each day. They can do so with the donations and support of individuals and organizations such as yourselves.

"All of us are born for a reason, but all of us don't discover why. Success has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself. It's what you do for others." -Danny Thomas, Founder of ALSAC / St. Jude

Thank you for your continued support! We look forward to seeing everyone in 2010!

South River Restoration Saves The Day!

January 20, 2009

South River Restoration is a CCRN Certified Center in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. I recently took a tour of their facility and South River's Contents Manager shared this fantastic story:

A family suffered a severe protein fire and everything was damaged, including most of their soft contents. One of the family members, a young boy that was diagnosed with autism, owned a life-sized German Shepherd stuffed animal and it was severely smoked.

Due to the large size and heavy smoke and soot damage, the local adjuster felt that the German Shepherd could not be restored using traditional cleaning methods. South River's Contents Manager thought otherwise. He stuffed the German Shepherd into their Esporta ES-3300 Wash System and, low and behold, it came out as good as new. He then went on to explain that the German Shepherd was large and very lifelike. So, when the South River Restoration employees entered the drying room where the stuffy sat, they jumped with fright.

The young boy was initially distraught when he thought his "protector" would be gone forever. With great pride, South River's Contents Manager was able to present the restored stuffy to the young boy who was very excited to see his special friend returned.

It is stories like this that illustrate the difference that each CCRN member is truly making in their own markets. If you have a success story that you would like to share with the group, I would truly appreciate it.
